Joy Ike and JD Eicher - “Human”

Peaches and Herb.  Sonny and Cher.  Ross and Richie. McCartney and Wonder. Rogers and Parton. Medley and Warnes.  Nicks and Petty.  Sheeran and Bieber.  The list goes on and on.  Duets are such a beautiful thing.  Bringing two voices together in perfect harmony.  Today, I bring one more to add to the list.  Ike and Eicher.  Joy Ike and JD Eicher are longtime friends and touring partners who have tossed around the idea of collaborating for years.  It took a pandemic and a guest appearance of JD’s weekly Patreon funded live online show, JDTV, to finally bring this idea to life.  Ike and Eicher chose to cover The Killers’ 2008 song, “Human.”

“Human” starts off as a simplistic, stripped down version with gentle instrumentation of a ukulele, acoustic guitar, and Ike’s trademark sounds of the keys.  A little over a minute into the song, the beat drops and the track gains power to give it more strength.

Most duets are set up to have one voice showcased in the first verse, the voices blending together at the chorus to harmonize, and then the other voice is on display in the next verse.  On Ike and Eicher’s version of “Human,” the listener is blessed with the opportunity to hear these angelic voices fusing together every part of this brilliant cover.

Anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting Joy and JD will tell you they both have such gentle spirits and are full of positivity.  These characteristics shine through in the collaboration of “Human.”  It’s clear as day that this friendship was meant to create music together and their fans are certainly hoping this will not be the last time they see the names Ike and Eicher united.
