Indré - “The Stream”
One reason why I’ve become such an avid fan of the independent music scene is because of the sense of community. Many of the musicians I follow are thanks to other musicians I follow. When I go to a live show, there’s an opening act who I end up falling in love with (most of the time). After attending many live shows over the years, I’ve collected quite the extensive list of favorite indie musicians.
Over the last couple of years, because of COVID, the opportunity to attend live shows has been void. In place of those live shows, live online streaming shows have become the new way to interact with your favorite musician and see them perform. It’s even better when they partake in a weekly online show. Thanks to JD Eicher and his Patreon-based online show, JDTV (streamed every Monday), this platform has introduced me to new musicians in the middle of this pandemic.
Singer-songwriter, Maddie Indré, appeared on JDTV in the beginning of September 2021. She is the lead singer of the band, Indré. JD had heard of Maddie and Indré through Summit FM and the Northeast Ohio music scene. JD interviewed Maddie and they spoke about the band and the video for their song, “The Stream.” Maddie’s mother was a singer and both Maddie and her brother, Angelo took piano lessons when they were young. By high school, Maddie started writing her own songs. She played her first gig at the tender age of sixteen. After attending one year of college, she realized that she wanted to pursue her love for music. In November 2020, she talked to Angelo (who stuck with the piano lessons and is classically trained) about starting a band and he was all about it. The brother sister duo started jamming with other people they knew and by January 2021, they had a solid group which is when Indré officially formed. The band is made up of Maddie Indré, Angelo Indré, Sam Merendino, and Dom Merlitti.
The music video for “The Stream” was captured with one camera, on one take, in a planned sequence. The video took place in a yoga studio, as Maddie is a yoga teacher herself and says that yoga plays a huge part in how she writes music now. The song was actually inspired from yoga as Maddie mentioned in the interview with JD. She said that the song is rooted in a journey of self-love. When it comes to Maddie’s voice, to quote JD, she reminds you of “a friendly Fiona Apple meets Alanis Morissette.” When he described her that way, I couldn’t agree more (which is why I had to give him credit).
“The Stream” music video is very intriguing, engaging, and leaves you wanting more from Indré. They are a young, talented, energetic band who are only just beginning their musical career and I can’t wait to see where their journey goes next. They are on tour now and into the new year, so be sure to check out their website and all of their social media pages for more information and to listen to more of their music.
