JD Eicher - “Kamikaze”
Music videos. Remember turning on MTV (if you were lucky enough to have cable) and sitting there for hours watching music video after music video? Then there were the days of TRL (Total Request Live - for the younger crowd). You’d turn on MTV after school to see where your favorite musician or band showed up on the countdown. Then the world of reality tv took over and the only time you could catch music videos were in the middle of the night or early in the morning. Eventually the music videos disappeared from the traditional MTV platform and they created channels like MTV2 or MTV Classic to play music videos 24/7. Then reality tv took over those channels, as well. Years later, YouTube came around and brought back music videos. You could watch old videos you once watched on MTV or new videos from current artists.
While YouTube has resurrected the art form of the music video, it hasn’t really been the same since the first decade or two of MTV. Sure, artists put a lot into the music videos that are released, but it’s not every day that you watch a music video that really sticks with you. Until now. ;-)
JD Eicher is no stranger to Music Meds By Mel, thanks to not only being a big fan of his music, but also having the privilege of calling him a friend. A few weeks ago, Eicher released the music video for his new song, “Kamikaze” and boy, he did not disappoint. To start, “Kamikaze” is not meant to have a deep meaning behind the lyrics. Eicher created “Kamikaze” to bring joy and laughter to the world with lyrics that match JD’s trademark sense of humor as well as a catchy tune that will be stuck in your head.
Moving on to the music video for “Kamikaze.” Eicher’s sense of humor radiates through every second of this music video. From the hilarious scenes using the green screen (as well as humorous behind the scenes footage at the beginning and end of video) to Eicher casting his own wife, Cathi, as his love interest who sees JD as somewhat of a stalker (at first), this video does not disappoint. I couldn’t help but be reminded of classic music videos like the Foo Fighter’s “Learn To Fly,” which also showcased the band’s well known sense of humor.
If you have the honor of knowing JD Eicher on a personal level, you’ll realize right away that this music video is quintessential JD Eicher. If you don’t have the pleasure of knowing this talented, hilarious, kind hearted, gentle soul, I highly suggest that you jump on the Eicher train before you miss out on any more of the fun. You can start with the brilliant video for his single, “Kamikaze.”
